SWA Coal - Coal Car Load
Profiling System (CCLPS)
The Coal Car Load Profiling System (CCLPS) is a scanning laser
which maps the surface of moving coal cars. The system is small, approximately 30 pounds
excluding the computer used for data collection, enabling it to either be permanently
mounted above the rails or suspended above the tracks with a small boom truck.
The data collected by CCLPS can be used to:
 | calculate losses of coal due to wind erosion;
|
 | determine redistribution of coal within car; |
 | and identify areas of fugitive dust control treatment
failure. |

TCOAL is another component of the CCLPS
system. It has been used to display coal profiles as they change over time, and
calculate changes in coal volume due to settling and wind erosion.
