The Community Doppler Lidar Simulation Model (DLSM)

Create the Platform/Lidar Inputs

The Platform/Lidar input screens are written in an MS Windows tab dialog control format. There are six tabs of which four must be filled out to complete the Platform/Lidar inputs as shown in the figure below.

The following example demonstrates how to use the tab entries to complete the necessary inputs for a direct detection system. An example for the coherent system can be seen in the Edit Platform/'Lidar Inputs WebPage. The DIAL Detection System is not available in the DLSM version 4.2.

Users are to enter in their input entries for black text fields only. Grey-out text fields are for future options. If an input entry field has a downward pointing arrow to the right of the field, then the user can either enter a value for the field or click the arrow and choose from a drop down menu of pre-provided values.

The Platform Tab

In the DLSM version 4.2, only satellite platforms are supported. In a future version of the DLSM, SWA intends to add  the following platform modules from the 1995 DLSM; Aircraft, Balloon and Ground based systems. An example of the satellite input fields are shown in the figure below. A complete listing and descriptions of the Satellite inputs are listed in Satellite Input Fields Table.

The Direct Detection System Tab

The Direct Detection System input fields for a double edge molecular lidar system are shown in the figure below. A complete listing of the Direct Detection System inputs are listed in Direct Detection System Input Fields Table.

The Telescope/Scanner Tab

The Telescope/Scanner input fields for a step-stare scanner are shown in the figure below. For the step-stare scanner, the user can enter inputs for up to 20 discrete azimuth angles. A complete listing of the Telescope/Scanner inputs and definitions are listed in Telescope/Scanner Input Fields Table.

Since most inputs do not change from azimuth to azimuth, the DLSM will echo previous azimuth angle inputs when the user clicks the Configuration for Azimuth button forward.

The user can just change the inputs to desired values for the new azimuth angle.

The Signal Processing Tab

The Signal Processing input fields for a double edge molecular lidar system are shown in the figure below. A complete listing of the Signal Processing inputs and definitions are listed in Signal Processing Input Fields Table.

Clicking the Platform/Lidar Inputs Complete button to return to the Experiment Manager.

The Cancel button clears ALL inputs from computer memory of the Platform/Lidar Tabs and returns to the Experiment Manager..

The Help button invokes the DLSM help WebPages.
